Life with allergies is hard. It’s a minefield of constantly checking labels and reading ingredients listings. Even then it’s not straight forward, allergens hide in unsuspecting places!
The food industry has responded and although it’s still not easy having allergies it’s a lot better than it was a decade ago.
Allergic reactions to skincare are not uncommon but the cosmetics industry has been slower to respond. 1 in 5 in the UK will have an allergic skin reaction in their lives and 80% of those report a reaction to cosmetic products. 50% of people claim to have sensitive skin.
The average woman uses 168 different ingredients across 12 products, so getting to the bottom of a cosmetic allergy trigger can be difficult.
This is where free from cosmetics come in. Myroo Skincare believe it is really important for those with skin allergies, sensitivities or other personal considerations to be able to quickly and easily locate products that don’t contain ingredients they avoid. Labelling products ‘free from’ signals to customers that the products have been formulated with allergies and sensitivities in mind, just like it does for food products. What Myroo don’t do is label with misleading terms like ‘free from toxins’ or ‘chemical free’, that doesn’t help anyone.
‘Free from’ tells Myroo customers that they understand. The founder of Myroo Skincare, Rachel, has multiple food and skin/cosmetic allergies and that drives the passion behind the brand.
Their products are organic, vegan and 100% plant based, free from gluten, nut and dairy. In fact they are free from all 14 food allergens and they offer a fragrance free version of every product that is free from all 26 cosmetic allergens.
Myroo products are made with 100% plant based ingredients and they label in English as well as the legally required INCI names for ingredients, making it easier for customers. They highlight what isn’t in their products but they are equally as proud of what does go into our products.
Formulating products simply, without 100s of ingredients, also makes it easier to identify which ingredient is causing an issue. Mainstream products often contain ingredients needed for the product to be commercial but bring no skin benefit; UV filters to protect the colour of the product on the shelf; colour to make the product more appealing; stabilisers to increase shelf life; surfactants to make a product foam and so on. Myroo products typically contain less than 10 ingredients, all there for their skin benefits alone.
